Ch. 361"Lord of the Time Ruins"
Chapter Summary
Key plot points and events
- On February 1, Year 08 of the Eternal Night New Calendar, twenty-one Fifth-Level Continents remain gathered in the Anti-Fan Alliance, which intends to attack the Mortal Domain and kill Jiu Wu.
- The alliance leader, Heavenfall Continent’s lord, claims his continent survived the ninth-ranked Ultimate Calamity, the Time Ruins, and gained the Ultimate Continent Title “Lord of the Time Ruins.” He insists it can defeat the Nine Strange Dragons.
- Hu Wan, lord of Gods and Devils Continent, arrives and challenges the alliance’s purpose. He suspects its members care less about stopping Jiu Wu than about destroying the Mortal Domain and taking its resources and Chen Fan’s “Blood Arena God-King” title.
- Hu Wan condemns powerful continents that hoard resources instead of joining the Boundary Battlefield. He considers using his Universal Unity plan to force such continents to advance and fight, but decides first to speak with Chen Fan.
- Chen Fan has blocked Hu Wan’s messages, but Hu Wan uses an exotic treasure to reach him. Their meeting begins with a comic argument over why Chen Fan listed Ephemeral Bloom for sale if he did not intend to sell it. Hu Wan explains it was only a warning to other continents.
- Hu Wan asks to meet Jiu Wu and assess whether he is truly a threat. Chen Fan agrees, and Hu Wan meets Jiu Wu, whose bewildered, unambitious manner makes him doubt that Jiu Wu is the destined Dark Monarch.
Character developments and interactions
- Hu Wan emerges as a principled, forceful figure: he supports the Human Race’s greater interests and distrusts the alliance’s self-serving motives. Though angry at its hypocrisy, he pauses before taking drastic action and seeks direct conversation with the Mortal Domain.
- Chen Fan remains blunt and difficult to engage. He ignores Hu Wan’s arguments until the conversation turns to Ephemeral Bloom, then agrees to let him meet Jiu Wu.
- Jiu Wu appears gentle and confused rather than brutal or power-hungry, deepening Hu Wan’s uncertainty about the prophecy surrounding him.
- The alliance’s leaders present themselves as protecting humanity, but Hu Wan’s accusations expose possible greed and opportunism beneath that justification.
Significant themes
- Public duty versus self-interest: Hu Wan condemns those who keep their strength and resources for themselves while others fight.
- Prejudice and uncertainty: The alliance treats Jiu Wu as dangerous because of his innate dark sacred physique, while Hu Wan insists his destiny has not been proven.
- Trust and honest judgment: Hu Wan seeks to judge Jiu Wu and the Mortal Domain through direct contact rather than rumor.
Author’s note
The author explains that the animated comic adaptation’s hiatus was unrelated to him: he received only the adaptation-rights fee and neither demanded additional money nor caused the delay. He expresses hurt at online accusations of greed and explains his commitment to daily updates, including during difficult circumstances.
