The ancient document was a timeworn sheet of vellum. It looked quite old and smelled as though it had been dug out of the Soil.
It was slightly rough.
The writing on it had grown rather blurry, but one line was still faintly legible.
"Year-End of year 382 of the Eternal Night Calendar, Jiangbei. The Netherworld Strange Tide comes ashore without cease. Great calamity."
The rest of the writing was extremely blurred. Only that line could still be made out with any clarity.
"It's now Year-End of year 378 of the Eternal Night Calendar. In another dozen days or so, we'll enter year 379. The end of year 382
would be four years from now."
Chen Fan stared at the vellum in his hand, his face expressionless. After a long silence, he suddenly laughed. He had just realized that his enemies might not be particularly bright.
Everyone knew.
Three hundred and seventy-eight years ago, Eternal Nightfall had descended, plunging the world into darkness. From that moment on, the continent had become the domain of Strange Entities. It had subsequently been renamed the Eternal Night Continent, and a new calendar had begun with the year Eternal Nightfall descended. It was known as the Eternal Night Almanac.
But—
That was what most people knew.
The more closely guarded truth was that Eternal Night had already descended once over eight thousand years ago. Back then, the many powers on the continent had driven the Strange Entities out.
All the ancient documents discovered now
were generally assumed to be remnants of that great war over eight thousand years ago.
Yet the term "Eternal Night Calendar" had clearly only come into existence in recent centuries. How could someone who left behind an ancient document over eight thousand years ago have known about it?
