Primitive civilizations explored the rules; advanced civilizations used them.
Great God Civilizations rewrote them.
To a Great God Civilization,
mathematical rules and physical laws were no exception.
There was no cosmic law they could not change.
Any one of their people could step forward
and use a technological weapon to destroy—or create—an entire star system.
To them, creating a sun was something even an infant could do with ease.
After all, they only needed to scatter two hundred octillion tons of hydrogen through space, speed up its formation into a nebula, stir that nebula until it collapsed into a stellar embryo, then ignite it with a nuclear explosion. A new star would be born.
For a Great God Civilization, that required no technical skill whatsoever.
And now, several Great God Civilizations had independently chosen to attack the same person.
However they looked at it, even if that person were a black hole come to life, there should have been no chance of escape.
But the civilizations carrying out the attack did not see it that way.
Through every means of observation at their disposal, they watched the being in the universe who was undergoing dimensional reduction.
That being was terrifying.
He appeared to wear a high-tech suit of armor that generated an invisible force field around him.
According to each civilization's assessment,
the field functioned much like a Warp Drive.
It compressed space ahead of him and expanded space behind him, enabling travel at the speed of light.
Yet the being was moving far faster than light.
His force field clearly did more than a Warp Drive.
It probably involved rewriting rules at the mathematical level.
But that was not what frightened the Great God Civilizations.
What truly horrified them was that the being could reverse their changes to the
