Most of these skulls were human, though some belonged to snakes, cattle, sheep, and other animals.
Charcoal lay piled in the braziers, but the "Scholar of Yore" did not rashly light them.
Klein's instincts told him that lighting the braziers without caution might cause something unexpected to happen.
Besides the braziers, there were also quite a few statues.
These statues gleamed like gold and seemed to be made of it, but the gold paint had peeled away in places, revealing the bronze beneath.
The golden statues either stood alone or rested against pillars.
Masks bearing nothing but eyes were carved into those pillars.
The masks tilted downward, making it look as though Giants were embedded in the pillars, looking down upon the living creatures entering the Pyramid.
Beyond these things,
they could also see stone steles along the way, or stone tablets hanging from the pillars.
