Thud!
Sifa tossed the sheet-wrapped corpse onto the floor and looked around. The basement had been unused for a long time. It was rather damp, but well hidden. Better still, the house above was occupied, though its only resident was an elderly woman with limited mobility.
"I can't believe you managed to find a place like this." As Sifa spoke, he pulled back the sheet. The man's Beyonder characteristic was emerging, but it had yet to take shape.
He searched the corpse. There were no mystical items, only a worn wallet and a tin containing cigarettes.
The sight of the wallet actually made Sifa rather happy. Then he said self-mockingly, "To think there'd come a day when finding someone else's wallet would make me happy."
He opened it and found some copper pennies and banknotes, totaling only a dozen pounds or so.
"Was he really this poor?"
Despite his complaints, Sifa readily pocketed all the notes and copper pennies. He had been rather short of money himself lately.
"Nobody carries large amounts of cash around with them. His money was probably in a bank account." Caven set down the blue cat in his arms and took out a small dried fish to feed him.
"Hey, litter scooper, come here." Sifa beckoned to him.
Caven clearly had never heard this term from Blue Planet culture. He froze for a moment before walking over.
"You can channel spirits, right?" Sifa asked. "Before his spirit dissipates, hurry up and see if you can dig up any useful clues."
"At the very least, you need to know who wanted you dead."
"Oh, right. Mr Bodyguard, you really are experienced." The Seer offered Sifa his sincere praise, then prepared to channel the spirit.
