Don't Look in the Mirror

The captain of the Sea Cow vaguely saw a short, skinny, dark figure—apparently a man—rapidly saying something to him.

He only caught two sentences: "This can wake your companions up," and "The island is dangerous." By the time he could see the underground hall clearly, the man had already run off.

"Captain, where are we?"

The captain of the Sea Cow shook his head. Looking at the "awakening agent" in his hand, he hurriedly scrambled to his feet. "Quick, get them down. We need to leave at once."

He staggered over to one of his companions and held the bottle beneath the man's nose. Before long, his companion coughed several times, his eyes rolling as though he were about to wake up.

"It works, this thing works!" The captain of the Sea Cow could not help silently thanking the person who had left the "awakening agent."

But if he had known Sifa's true intentions, he probably would not have thanked him. He might even have wanted to shoot him.

Sifa had not acted out of kindness. He had two purposes in saving those pirates.

His battle with Mrs. Hilda had caused quite a commotion, and he worried it would draw the island's residents over. If those pirates escaped, they could help divert attention. Besides, if he had only rescued Quincy, it would have been easy for people to connect the matter to "Mr. Rayleigh." After all, Quincy was one of Mr. Rayleigh's workers. If Sifa later visited the island in the identity of Mr. Rayleigh, he likely would not receive a warm welcome.

Thus, releasing the pirates would also prevent the islanders from using Quincy to guess that this matter was connected to Mr. Rayleigh.
