At Damir Port, a drunk lay sprawled on the ground, muttering incoherently.
Just then, a newspaper was caught by the wind and slapped over the drunk's face.
"Get lost, damn it—" The moment the drunk pulled the newspaper away, a fierce gust blew straight into his face, leaving him unable to breathe.
Most of his drunkenness vanished at once. He saw the ships at the docks rising and falling on the storm-tossed sea. Then, a huge wave crashed against the pier, spraying sheets of foam that made it seem as if rain were falling over the docks.
The seawater drenched the drunk from head to toe. Then he heard a thunderous boom from the sky. The tremendous peal startled him, and when he looked up in terror, he discovered unusual clouds gathering over Damir Port.
The thick clouds piled atop one another, lightning flashing continuously within them. With every flash, vast swathes of silvery white spread across the sky.
Above the primeval forest behind Damir Port, the clouds slowly began to rotate, forming a vortex. Bright bursts of light erupted from it from time to time, countless bolts of lightning twisting and flashing within.
"Storm above."
The drunk scrambled to his feet and hurried back, shouting as he ran, "Don't strike me with lightning! I swear I'll never drink again!"
Boom!
Nearly all of Damir Port heard the thunderclap, as if ten thousand cannons had fired at once. Then the earth suddenly turned silvery white. From the enormous cloud vortex above the primeval forest descended a thick, brilliant, majestic bolt of silver lightning.
Like a war spear cast down by a god, it tore through the night and struck into the primeval forest, crashing toward the ground.
At
