Who had just thumped his chest in front of the captain and promised to be the bait? Regretting it now? Worse still, he actually wanted me to be the bait. Did he think I was an idiot?
Danitz flew into a rage, slammed a hand onto the table, and stood up.
His movement drew the attention of two other diners in the restaurant.
Sifa coughed into his fist. "Three thousand pounds."
Half of Danitz's anger immediately vanished. Before he had fully risen, he sat back down again. He even shifted his chair slightly backward, making it look as though he had stood up only to move it.
After sitting down, he sneered. "What, even a great adventurer gets scared?"
Sifa gave him an indifferent glance. "If you're not afraid, you go."
Danitz had no retort. He snorted and picked up his beer to continue drinking.
At that moment, their breakfast began arriving one dish after another. Sifa cut off a slice of bread, spread honey over it, added smoked ham, and brought it to his mouth.
He took a bite and spoke while chewing. "I'm not deliberately targeting you. If you still have a brain, you should know that if you become the bait, Admiral of Blood will be much more tempted."
"After all, you're a member of the Golden Dream. You're the fourth mate, so the information you possess is naturally more valuable than mine."
Danitz thought about it. It really did seem to be true.
"But you were the one who promised the captain you'd be the bait, not me." Danitz picked up the creamy milk soup and took a sip, a smile curling at his lips. "So I won't agree to it."
