Traveling through a world above reality was nothing new to Sifa.

Yet no matter how many times he came here, he could never get used to this bizarre world, where clear, brilliant lights flashed overhead and countless strange, indescribable figures flickered in and out of sight, where a half-collapsed castle might appear one moment and an indistinct city the next.

The Spirit World was like a space assembled by smashing the real world to pieces, then randomly fitting its fragments together without logic or order.

It was a strange world.

Miss Fors has already sent me a chapter of Spirit World Notes through Mr. Fool. Perhaps I can take it out tonight and read it, along with that incomplete half of Travels of the Sea.

As Sifa pondered this, he passed through a region resembling an ocean. He faintly heard a beautiful song, which reminded him of mermaids singing.

But why would there be mermaids in the Spirit World?

Sifa looked toward the sound and saw thick mist spreading across the "sea" below. A pair of scale-covered hands reached out of it.

The hands had elegant contours, clearly belonging to a woman, but they were covered in blue-gold scales that gleamed with a metallic sheen.

Sifa instinctively turned his head away, afraid to look any longer, lest he see something terrifying.

Terrifying? Why did that word come to mind? If those hands weren't covered in scales, I could easily imagine a beautiful young lady.

Sifa did not dwell on it and put it out of his mind.

He had no idea.

Had he watched a little longer, he would have seen a woman vaguely emerge from the thick sea mist. It concealed most of her body, but her thick gray hair was still visible, as were the scales covering her
