On Saturday morning, a wind blew in from the Sonia Sea, bringing a chill that made the two old men fishing on the pier hunch their shoulders.
"Joseph, you old fool, look how cold you are. Have a drink." An old man with a head full of silver hair tossed a tin flask to his companion in a felt hat.
The old man in the hat caught the flask and chuckled. "Who's cold? I'm still strong. Just the night before last, a girl at the Wild Horse Bar said I was as fierce as a wild horse."
As the two old men chatted and laughed, Joseph suddenly let out an "Eh?" and stood up.
"What did you see?" The old man in the felt hat took a sip of liquor and looked at his friend in confusion.
"A ship. A strange ship." Joseph pointed ahead.
Following his finger, the old man in the felt hat soon spotted a sailing ship drifting over the distant sea.
Every sail on the ship was spread wide, catching the wind as it headed toward the pier. The two old men narrowed their eyes and saw that there did not seem to be a single person on deck.
The two exchanged glances, each seeing unease in the other's eyes.
"Maybe we should get the police to take a look." Joseph began packing up his fishing gear. "You keep watch here. I'll go to the police station and be right back."
"Alright."
Half an hour later, a squad of Frank police arrived at the pier. The sailing ship had already docked, yet its sails remained unfurled. Even with its bow pressed against the shore, no crewmen came to take them down.
Several officers looked at one another before an inspector made a decision. "Board the ship."
