Odys was not surprised by Alexis's request. After examining Nicola's eyes, he said, "Healing them wouldn't be difficult. But does Miss Nicola want to see this world?"
"Why wouldn't she?" Alexis said at once. "Of course she does."
Just as Odys had expected, Nicola said, "I don't."
Alexis froze. He looked at her. "Why?"
"This world is too dark. That's why I can't see anything," Nicola said with a smile. "Right now, there are still many beautiful things in my 'eyes.' Let me keep some of that beauty."
Odys had already noticed that Miss Nicola saw things clearly. She would not accept his treatment, at least not now, nor would she accept Alexis's kindness.
In her present condition, she could still face Alexis on relatively equal terms.
Alexis's eyes filled with tears. "But... but I want you to see me."
