After arranging the most urgent work, he sighed wearily. His gaze shifted from the papers before him to the clock on the wall. "Why hasn't Rosago returned yet?"
Not long ago, his subordinate Meursault had apparently died during a simple surveillance assignment, with a minor detective suspected of killing him. When Beckland gave Rosago a task, he had also asked him to look into that detective and see whether anything was amiss.
Ordinarily, Rosago should have been back by now. Had he run into trouble?
"I hope he returns soon—" Beckland rubbed his forehead. He was not particularly worried about Rosago's safety. As a Sequence 5 Marionettist of the Seer Pathway, Rosago could easily alter his appearance and possessed considerable Anti-Divination abilities. Even if he encountered an enemy he could not defeat, no one short of a Demigod could keep him from escaping.
Beckland was only worried that Rosago would return too late. He still had several tasks for him.
Finished with his work, Beckland stood and prepared to relax with a cigar in the smoking room.
Just then, an unfamiliar man appeared before him out of nowhere.
Here, inside the heavily guarded Intis Embassy, whose walls had been sealed with ritual magic to make passage through the Spirit World difficult, a stranger had appeared right in front of Beckland!
