Infiltration and Rescue

That whistle worked a lot like Mr. Azik's Copper Whistle. It seemed to have the same drawback of attracting the dead, too...

With the Pure White Eye active, Abner examined the copper whistle carefully before finally accepting it.

Seeing Abner take her gift, Jane's face of black mist once again took on a "happy" expression. Then she lifted the hem of a nonexistent skirt, curtsied, and said goodbye.

"I don't have much time left. I have to go now... Sweet dreams tonight, Abner."

As her voice faded, her misty figure slowly withdrew into the wall.

"Safe travels." Abner placed a hand over his chest and returned her farewell with a smile.

The gaslight suddenly brightened, and every trace of eerie green vanished.

Abner, who had kept the Pure White Eye active throughout, stared at the change for a long moment before coming back to himself. He sighed inwardly. I couldn't learn it... Besides the Mystical Item Jane mentioned, she must have borrowed the power of some Dead Spirit.

After some thought, he took the cello case containing the sealed Dawn Sword from his bedroom cabinet.

When not in use, the Dawn Sword had to be sealed with power from the domain of the God of Death or Darkness. Every so often, Abner had to perform another ritual to reset the runes inside the case.

But now that he had the Book of the Dead, he could try a different approach...

With that thought, Abner inscribed new runes inside the case, placed the Book of the Dead in their center, and shut the lid.

That way, the two items would counteract and seal each other...
