I remember Emlyn asking a Sanguine duke about that ancient castle in the original story. The duke said the castle was older than he was, and any living creature that approached it risked being corrupted by a Fallen power!

Even a Devil thrown into the castle had been corrupted, going from cold and cruel to frenzied and chaotic.

If Baron Konwa really explored that castle centuries ago, it would explain why he never finished building the mausoleum and sealed himself underground...

With that in mind, Abner set aside the rest of the page. He turned back to the beginning of the notebook and, using what he remembered from the Book of the Dead, began deciphering it from the start.

"May 2, 745.

"Today, I—Benjamin Conway Grant Miranda—became a Gatekeeper. It's a day worth remembering. At last, I'm qualified to build the mausoleum and prepare the ritual to awaken our ancestor.

"From today onward, these entries may touch on matters of Secrecy, so I've decided to use a new notebook and write in cipher... Unless someone else has read our ancestor's Book of the Dead, they'll have a hard time cracking it..."

Abner stared at the names he had translated—"Benjamin Conway Grant Miranda" and "Book of the Dead"—and fell into thought.

Jane's surname is Grant... And according to her, the false identity she registered in Bayam was Jane Miranda... That can't be a coincidence!

And Jane dug the original Book of the Dead out of her ancestor's mausoleum...

So who was Jane's ancestor? At first, I thought it might be an identity Mr. Azik used in one of his past lives... But now it doesn't seem so.
