Hmm. Judging by how Derrick changed afterward, I can think of roughly three possibilities.
First, the Chained God's preparations worked, and after He was corrupted, Derrick was activated as His contingency... But that doesn't seem very likely. Besides, Miss Messenger said she thought he was a god, but he wasn't...
Second, the Mother Tree of Desire discovered this contingency ahead of time, dealt with Derrick, and corrupted him, giving rise to a new personality. But that seems unlikely too. If the Mother Tree of Desire had been behind it, he wouldn't have fled immediately, much less run all the way to the God of Knowledge's territory before stopping.
Third, building on the second possibility, the Mother Tree of Desire may indeed have discovered him and sent someone to deal with him. But after he "died," an unknown being took over his body... A Transmigrator, in other words!
After all, the changes he brought to Lenburg, from the modern university model to the journal impact-factor system, had "Transmigrator" written all over them.
I suspected it before, but after reading these descriptions, I'm even more certain. He's a Transmigrator who entered Derrick's body after Derrick "died"!
