At a coastal city.
A salty, damp sea breeze blew in from the south beneath the blazing sun.
A cluster of dilapidated apartment buildings stood there, their walls mottled with peeling paint and covered in emerald-green vines.
This was part of the Planning Area and was about to be demolished. Most residents had already moved away, so even during the day, few people could be seen.
Several cheap family sedans were parked downstairs, along with a couple of old cars that had reached their scrap date. They were covered in rust, their tires flat, and it was impossible to tell how long they had been sitting there.
Yet among those cheap sedans, a BMW M5 parked by the wall stood out conspicuously.
Little Han, wrapped in a dark gray trench coat, slowly walked up to the BMW. After checking its license plate and model, he quickly turned and returned to a Toyota Alphard with pitch-black window tint. He opened the door and climbed inside.
Wan Hao sat expressionlessly inside the vehicle compartment and asked, "Can you confirm it?"
Little Han nodded. "The license plate and model are both correct. I also asked property management here. This guy basically never goes out or works during the day. Only at night does he drive to places like bars and KTVs to have fun."
Sleeping by day and active by night, with no job or source of income, yet his spending had never stopped. Combined with the information Su Rui had provided earlier, Wan Hao's face darkened.
"Go."
Wan Hao nodded.
In the back seat sat a slender young man in a pale yellow hoodie and trendy sneakers. With a gentle expression, he looked like a college student fresh out of school. His eyes were fixed on the fierce battle on his Honor of Kings screen. With a sigh, he handed the phone to Wan Hao. "Here, play for me. This is my promotion match!"
Wan Hao was at a loss for words. Taking the phone, he asked, "Little Bei, aren't you nervous at all before a job?"
"Mm, I forgot what being nervous feels like a long time ago." Little Bei smiled, his face pale.
That smile instantly transformed his entire aura. His expression became wicked, and his small white teeth glinted faintly, making him resemble some kind of carnivorous beast.
Little Bei pulled a Wolf Head Dagger from his clothes, tucked it backward into his sleeve, and pushed open the car door.
"That man may have a gun." Wan Hao raised his brows in warning, pulling a heavy police Bulletproof Vest from beneath the seat. "Put this on!"
"I'm not wearing that." Little Bei raised his eyebrows and flatly refused. "If a person is useless, then even if he has a gun—or you give him a cannon—he's still second-rate."
"Don't underestimate him..." Wan Hao cautioned again.
"Come on, enough! An assassin who couldn't even kill you is just apprentice-level..." Little Bei waved his hand impatiently. Then, as if realizing his words were inappropriate, he smiled awkwardly. "Ha... Boss Wan, I speak pretty bluntly. Don't take it to heart."
Wan Hao frowned but said nothing.
"I'm off!" Little Bei turned and headed into the stairwell. "Play well for me, alright? It's a promotion match! I'll be down in three minutes!"
Little Han watched Little Bei's retreating back, then nervously moved closer to Wan Hao. "Brother Hao, can this guy really do it? Why do I feel like he's a little too full of himself?"
"..." Wan Hao could not figure out what Little Bei was capable of, but he knew that the assassin who had tried to kill him back then was definitely no apprentice-level amateur.
When Wan Hao had run into trouble, his special forces bodyguard, who also served as his driver, had fought desperately to protect him. Even so, Wan Hao had still been stabbed and nearly died.
That man's combat ability and techniques had both been incredibly formidable. He had faintly reached the level of a King of Soldiers!
"A friend introduced him to me, so I don't know much either..." Wan Hao remembered that after Su Rui had pointed out the assassin's location, he had specifically introduced this "Little Bei" to him. Su Rui had told him not to bring any of his own men when handling the matter; Little Bei alone would be enough.
Wan Hao lit a cigarette and glanced irritably at the phone screen. He immediately muttered, "Fuck, I don't really know how to play Li Bai either..."
Little Han casually took the phone from Wan Hao's hand and grinned. "Brother Hao, I'm a national-server Li Bai player!"
Wan Hao froze for a moment, then turned to look outside the window. It was hard for him to calm down.
That assassination attempt remained an indelible shadow in his mind.
Moreover, in recent years, Wan Cheng's infiltration of the family and his increasing pressure and suppression of Wan Hao had only grown worse.
If they really caught this murderer, Wan Hao would have a trump card up his sleeve.
But could it really go that smoothly?
That Little Bei seemed somewhat unreliable, and the assassin was indeed ruthless. If they failed to capture him this time, he would surely flee far away. Catching him again then would be as difficult as ascending to heaven...
Just as Wan Hao grew restless, an extremely muffled gunshot sounded upstairs, followed by a suppressed, low scream.
Ten seconds later.
Footsteps rang out from the stairwell entrance again.
Little Bei strode over, carrying a middle-aged man who looked like a blood-soaked gourd. He pulled open the car door and tossed him into the vehicle compartment with a thud.
Wan Hao was stunned.
It had been less than three minutes from the time Little Bei went upstairs to the time he finished the job!
"I cut the tendons in his hands and feet. Find a private place to bandage him up, or he'll die before we get back to Tongzhou City." As though he had merely handled some trivial matter, Little Bei stood there without so much as a wound or a spot of blood on him. He said with a smile, "Come on, say something. Prove who you are!"
The middle-aged man convulsed all over, trembling violently from the pain. He struggled to raise his head and meet Wan Hao's gaze. He froze. "You're... Wan Hao?"
"It really is you!" Wan Hao gritted his teeth. He knew that voice all too well.
"Drive." Once Wan Hao had confirmed it, Little Bei snatched the phone from Little Han's hands. "Damn, you're pretty good, man... I was 0-5, and you actually got me to 5-5. Um, teach me sometime when you're free..."
Little Han looked at the middle-aged man in the vehicle compartment, covered in blood and lying there like a dead dog. He swallowed. "Bro... I'll quit my internet addiction when I get back. Please don't ever come looking for me!"
"You're no fun at all!" Little Bei curled his lips.
The phone screen suddenly went dark, displaying that Li Bai had been slain.
Tongzhou City.
A subsidiary of the Li Group, Royal Film and Television City.
Su Rui and Li Ruobing pushed open the car doors and got out. Suddenly, a phone began to vibrate.
It was a message from Wan Hao.
There were only a few simple words.
"It's done. Thanks!"
A few seconds later, another message came through.
"That Little Bei... is he your friend? Could you ask him whether he's interested in working for me... He can name whatever compensation he wants. I'll agree to anything."
Su Rui smiled but did not reply. Instead, he followed Li Ruobing into the Film and Television City.
The elevator went all the way up to the top floor.
This was already the office area for the internal high-level executives. As soon as they exited the elevator, two burly Security Guards approached them.
"Sir, ma'am, private individuals are not allowed in here." One security guard held out his hand to stop them.
"I'm Li Ruobing." Li Ruobing revealed her identity directly and walked straight ahead. She pushed open the General Manager's office door, then turned her head and said, "Go find Li Mingze. I'm giving him three minutes."
The security guard froze, then immediately saluted with a serious expression. "Yes!"
Two minutes later.
Inside an executive's office, Li Mingze was sweating profusely as he hurriedly buttoned up his shirt. He staggered out of the room. Behind him, a curvy office worker with flushed cheeks and disheveled hair chased after him, clutching a suit jacket. The Black Stockings on her thighs had been torn apart, and her face was full of bashful embarrassment. "President Li, your clothes... your clothes!"
