Anping District.
This was an old residential neighborhood, a relic of the 1990s. It had originally been built as housing for teachers at a nearby middle school. Most of its residents were retired longtime school employees. Because it was relatively remote and far from the city center, quiet and peaceful, the scenery here had barely changed over the decades.
But that peace was about to be shattered.
Three months earlier, the city had proposed renovating all the old districts within its boundaries. After the bidding process, the demolition and reconstruction rights for Anping District had fallen to Haochi Company, under Lin Jiatao's name.
Demolition. The word sounded simple, but everyone knew it was anything but simple in practice.
Even those who had never experienced it personally could learn about it online or on television. Demolition involved the interests of two different sides.
One was the residents of the demolition zone; the other was the real estate company preparing to develop the land.
If the compensation was too low, the residents refused to move. If it was too high, the real estate company was unwilling to pay.
Finding a balance between the two was extremely difficult.
And once that balance was mishandled, conflict could easily erupt. Physical clashes were common during demolition projects, and sometimes people even lost their lives. That was nothing unusual.
Lin Jiatao had risen through the underworld, so his Demolition Team naturally carried a heavy gangster air. On top of that, several Team Leaders were greedy and wanted to skim some of the demolition funds for themselves, so they kept the offered price very low.
The residents refused, and the Demolition Team tried to force the demolition through.
The two sides came to blows and blood was spilled, so naturally, someone called the police.
