That night, Tina returned to her dorm in a daze. She vaguely remembered Mr. Borg taking her into the back room, pulling out a pocket watch and swinging it before her eyes, then feeling around her body...
But none of that mattered. At least she slept soundly until noon the next day, without dreaming or hearing whispers beside her ear.
Tina finally breathed a sigh of relief. She felt as though she had found a savior. Even if Mr. Borg had done something unsavory to her, she no longer cared.
After a quick wash, she immediately went back to Mr. Borg's house.
This time, Mr. Borg readily introduced her to the people praying in green robes. He said they belonged to the Nature Church and that he was one of its priests. He also said Tina had been favored by the God of Nature and was destined from birth to become a priestess in his service.
Before this, Tina would have turned up her nose at anyone who said such a thing. Now, though, she found herself agreeing with Mr. Borg rather than rejecting his words. At the same time, shadowy vines appeared around her, gliding slowly like living little snakes.
Tina was hardly surprised to see them, as though this was only natural. This was the god's favor, the Transcendent ability he had bestowed on her—Psychic Vines!
Next, Mr. Borg taught Tina some basic concepts and common knowledge about Transcendents. Tina then became his assistant as a matter of course and went to the Nature Church's secret base in Faerun City.
It was an abandoned factory on the outskirts, its desolate, dilapidated appearance utterly at odds with the flower-filled streets of Faerun City a few kilometers away.
The Nature Church had long since turned it into a secret base.
