Nature and Theory
Psychic Energy is the underlying resource behind supernatural phenomena. It can remain within magical artifacts, supernatural creatures, spiritual entities, and certain contaminated objects; Green's Graveyard can identify compatible reserves and convert them into usable points. 3 5
Green's predecessor accidentally absorbed residual Psychic Energy from a damaged necromantic artifact and stored it in his heart. Under proper guidance, that trace could have formed a magic ring and made him a Novice Necromancer Apprentice. 1
Void Psionics School
The Void Psionics School holds that undead are formed from Psychic Energy fragments originating in the void. Necromantic spells condense these fragments and bind them to physical materials, including corpses, earth, stone, or iron. 7
Undead Arcane Realm School
The competing Undead Arcane Realm School argues that undead are independent beings from the Netherworld, summoned and controlled through contracts rather than created from Psychic Energy fragments. The existence of Undead Dragons is cited as evidence for this theory. 7
Detection and Absorption
- Psychic Energy traces on Baron Lonanks's corpse allowed the coroner to identify his murder as the work of an anomaly rather than an ordinary killer. 3
- Death Spirit Sight can reveal otherwise invisible bloodstains and Psychic Energy fluctuations, including the hidden Wind Blade Bracelet beneath a mattress. 4 5
- The Graveyard System recognizes compatible magical items on contact and offers to absorb their Psychic Energy. 5
- Absorbing the Wind Blade Bracelet produced a blue halo, reduced the item to powder, fully activated the Graveyard's functions, and left Green with 25 Psychic Energy. 5
- The Graveyard displays its reserve as a blue crystal icon and numerical total. 5
- An item's appearance is unreliable: Lola's amethyst pendant was a counterfeit with no usable energy, while an oxidized damaged ring raised Green's reserve from 0 to 7. 11
- Green determines that ordinary humans do not provide Psychic Energy; his gains come from supernatural beings and energy-bearing items. 32
Documented Sources
| Source | Psychic Energy obtained or observed | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Damaged necromantic artifact / half-broken Bone Whistle | Unspecified | Its residual energy was absorbed into Green's heart and partially activated the Graveyard. 1 3 |
| Wind Blade Bracelet | 25 remaining after activation | An intact magical bracelet that Baron Lonanks used to injure the anomaly before his death. 5 |
| Damaged silver ring | 7 | Raised Green's stored reserve from 0 to 7. 11 |
| Thirteen damaged items from Old One-Eye's basement | Estimated 50–60 | Green considered the amount insufficient for major Graveyard construction. 13 |
| Demonic Insect Parasites | 6 | Raised Green's reserve to 35 after their defeat. 18 |
| Battlefield fragments from Old Willy | Nearly 1,100 | Eight of twenty-four fragments contained energy; the broken metal disc alone held about 500. Green's reserve reached 1,095. 21 |
| Meditation through the Gelfis Meditation Method | About 1 per 6 hours | A renewable source that began after the meditation clock tower manifested in the Graveyard. 23 |
| Advanced Apprentice evil god priest | 600 | Green's rough comparison places Intermediate Apprentices at roughly 100–200 and Junior Apprentices at roughly 30–40. 26 |
| Tower of Yin Spirits ritual chamber | Over 2,200 | Seventeen supernatural corpses yielded over 2,200, excluding the further value of their weapons and magical items. 38 |
| Ceramic Factory raid | 6,513 | Green exchanged nearly all spoils except the enchanted pistol and Ghost Eye for this amount. 40 |
Graveyard Expenditure
| Function | Psychic Energy Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Recruit Skeleton Soldier | 5 | Standard Graveyard unit. 5 |
| Recruit Gun Skeleton Soldier | 10 | First-level elite troop with combat power 6.3. 20 |
| Capture and modify Hard-Skin Ghoul | 20 | The expenditure healed and altered the defeated Ghoul to meet Graveyard standards. 15 |
| Correct the Gelfis Meditation Method | 100 | Corrected three errors, five abnormal mental nodes, and three abnormal Psychic-Energy nodes. 23 |
| Construct Magic Guild | 2,000 | Expected to provide magical knowledge and potentially a Meditation Method. 8 |
| Construct Ghost production prerequisites | 5,000 | The Abandoned Tower and City Defense Fortress were required before ordinary Ghosts could be produced. 31 |
| Upgrade to Evil Spirit Tower | 2,500 | Required for direct production of elite Evil Spirits. 31 |
| Certify Ghost Eye-created Ghosts | 15 per Ghost | The Ghost Eye transformed sixteen souls into three Ghosts for 45 Psychic Energy; direct Graveyard recruitment would cost 30 per Ghost. 36 |
| Upgrade Rotting Crypt | 2,000 | Enabled production of Hard-Skin Ghouls and Iron-Skinned Zombies. 40 |
Limitations and Compatibility
- Psychic Energy is scarce relative to the cost of major Graveyard structures, forcing Green to choose between immediate troop recruitment and long-term infrastructure. 8 21 26
- The three sacrificed elves contained no remaining Psychic Energy because the Tower of Yin Spirits had apparently used their reserves as an offering to a Void Yin Spirit. 26
- The Graveyard successfully converted black mist left by a Void Yin Spirit on the Hard-Skin Ghoul into Psychic Energy. 25
- The ancient pyramid's obelisk contains immense Psychic Energy, potentially tens of thousands of points, but the Graveyard refuses to absorb it. Green suspects the energy is contaminated or otherwise incompatible. 38 39
- Psychic Energy within enchanted firearms can activate their runes. A Gun Skeleton Soldier's own energy powers an enchanted rifle's spell-breaking bullets. 20 25
Role in Green's Development
| Chapter | Development |
|---|---|
| 1–5 | Residual artifact energy activates the Graveyard; the Wind Blade Bracelet fully unlocks its core functions and establishes Psychic Energy as its operating resource. 1 5 |
| 11–21 | Green begins actively buying damaged magical items, treating discarded artifacts and battlefield fragments as valuable energy reserves. 11 13 21 |
| 18–19 | The death of Demonic Insect Parasites proves that supernatural enemies can provide Psychic Energy, leading Green to treat combat as a means of advancement. 18 19 |
| 23 | The corrected Gelfis Meditation Method creates a renewable, though initially slow, source of Psychic Energy. 23 |
| 25–40 | Green's campaigns against the Tower of Yin Spirits turn supernatural enemies, magical items, and captured territory into major Graveyard funding. 25 38 40 |
| 39 | The obelisk demonstrates that not all Psychic Energy can be safely or successfully absorbed by the Graveyard. 39 |
