Elizabeth Franton's expression did not change. She seemed to have expected Green's answer. If their positions were reversed, she would not have agreed to such terms either.
"All right. What are your terms?" Elizabeth asked calmly. She adjusted her attitude, set aside her superior air, and now regarded Green as her equal—perhaps even the more dangerous of the two.
Green did not answer. "That's not a question you should be asking me. I wasn't the one who came with hostile intentions. If I'd attacked you first, you could ask what I wanted. But you made the first move, and now you're asking me? This is the time for you to show some sincerity."
Elizabeth Franton's face darkened. Green clearly intended to demand an outrageous price, and worse, he expected her to offer it herself. Anger rose in her chest. It had been years since anyone dared threaten her. Hatred flashed in her eyes, and her expression hardened. "Mr. Wilson, I hope you understand that holding a fragment of my soul doesn't give you license to do whatever you please. Push me too far, and I can take you down with me!"
"Oh? Take me down with you?" Green gave her an unreadable half smile. "Are you talking about the Meditation Method you gave me?"
Elizabeth Franton's expression shifted slightly. Given Green's talent and intelligence, and the hostility she had just shown, it was hardly surprising that he had guessed something was wrong with the Meditation Method she had given him. The question was when he had noticed, and what he had done afterward. Had he kept practicing it, or given it up? That was what mattered.
Elizabeth had been somewhat confident, but Green's faint smile made her hesitate. *Damn that little bastard. Is he bluffing, or has he really unraveled
