At the last possible instant, Suzune had barely caught the blow. A powerful shock traveled through the Short Sword in her hand. Her opponent's swordsmanship seemed even better than hers.
In that instant, Delstad broke free of the mental lock. His eyes flew wide, nearly splitting at the corners, and a frenzied will to fight surged through him again.
But his eyes had already gone vacant. He had fallen unconscious and fought on by instinct alone. His Dragon-Hunting Rifle was damaged, his Enchanted Pistol lost. With no ranged firearm left, he drew his Short Knife and swept it through the air in a bright streak, slashing toward Death Angel's throat with astonishing speed.
"Delstad! You..." Suzune frowned. Sebolutes had ordered her here to save Delstad, and she had already done so. She did not want a clash with Green. Yet even now, Delstad kept fighting as though he had gone mad.
Suzune soon saw the state he was in, however, and looked as startled as Xika.
"He actually used Last Conviction!" Suzune murmured. Respect flickered in her eyes. Anyone who dared use that potion was a hero.
"He has half a minute left. Let him die by his enemy's sword. He deserves that honor." Xika's voice came from behind her.
Suzune frowned. That plainly went against her orders, but after a moment's thought, she stepped aside and let Delstad charge madly at Death Angel...
