The Most Frustrating Death in History

Pain and fury twisted the Sea God's stern, sacred face. The instant his consciousness awakened, he had sensed danger and malice. He had tried to flee at any cost and find somewhere to recover his strength, but he had failed.

The Sword of Holy Light pierced his divine body. Cracks spread outward from the wound across his blue-scaled form, and the little Divine Power he possessed leaked away. His condition worsened, leaving him weaker still.

"You damned insects! Ignorant humans! Do you mean to slay a god?" the Sea God demanded. He understood now: the people who had revived him were not his followers. They wanted him dead. The Sacrificial Magic Circle had awakened his consciousness and rebuilt his divine body, but it had not filled him with Divine Power.

Without that crucial final step, he had awakened with only a meager reserve of Divine Power.

For all the Sea God's abilities, he could do little without it. The Sword of Holy Light fired by the Holy Light Church's Void Ship had pierced him, dealt a fatal blow, and destroyed the core of his divine body.

This could not have been an accident. It was a vast conspiracy planned in advance. Whether the parties involved had worked together or merely reached an unspoken understanding, they had revived him one moment and struck him down the next. The Sea God had never felt so helpless. He knew he was trapped. His Divine Power was spent, his body was gravely wounded, and his chances of escaping intact were nearly nonexistent. Bitterly, he began to Curse them. "Despicable humans! I Curse you—"

Before he could finish, the Sword of Holy Light lodged in his chest blazed with dazzling light and swallowed his enormous body.

"Ahhh—" The Sea God's scream cut off abruptly.
