Next came a Human City-State with two large cities. Farting, the Child of the World, came from there, as did the brave heavy infantry and the heavy cavalry that had fled the battlefield.
Because the heavy cavalry had withdrawn in formation, the Human City-State had learned the crucial news early and prepared its defenses.
Yet when faced with the Undead Empire's army of more than a hundred thousand, its momentum like a rainbow, the city-state's Elders' Council learned what had happened to the five Calamity Rank powerhouses who had organized the allied forces: one was dead, three had been captured, and one was missing. They promptly chose to surrender.
General James met no further resistance beyond what he had expected. Once the tribes heard of the defeat at the front and learned that the Calamity Rank powerhouses had either died or fled, even those that had joined the allied forces surrendered. Becoming captives and slaves was still better than being wiped out.
General James had also pulled a trick. Before the army arrived, he had secretly spread word of the Undead Empire's policy toward captives, polishing it a little. He let them know that even if they surrendered and were captured, they might one day regain the status of free citizens through labor or military merit. The Undead Empire did not slaughter prisoners indiscriminately, so they could surrender without fear.
Quite a few people in the tribes that had joined the allied forces understood that the Undead Empire was behind this, but they chose to play deaf and dumb.
