Judging by motive and who stood to gain, Poseidon the Sea God was the most likely culprit behind the attempt on Carter V's life.
Then, amid the already tense atmosphere, rumors spread that the mysterious killers who had been assassinating Calamity-Rank Strong Ones were from the Titan Race—an assassination unit under the God King.
But Zeus and the rest of the Titan Race were just as baffled. They had no idea what was going on, and no such assassination unit existed.
The Titan Race had always lived by a simple rule: fight anyone who challenged them, no matter the cost. Whatever the enemy, they crushed them head-on. Apart from a few like Gaia, the Earth Mother Goddess, who enjoyed scheming, most were brutes. They would have scorned assassination itself, let alone formed a unit for it.
Regardless, suspicion now pointed squarely at the Titan Race. People believed they had sent the mysterious killers. Mud had splashed onto their trousers, and no one would believe it wasn't filth.
Explaining themselves would do no good, either. The Titan Race had no organization or nation in the Main World that could speak for them.
Besides, the Titan Race was too arrogant to bother explaining. As Lonanks, the former God King, had once put it: "Why should we of the Titan Race explain ourselves to lowly humans?"
As the rumors continued to spread, the accusation became all but accepted as fact: the Titan Race's assassination unit was responsible.
None of the true leaders of the various factions believed it, though. They were sure the real culprit was someone else, someone too mysterious to identify for now. That culprit certainly would not come forward to deny the rumors. The Titan Race had taken the blame for plenty over the years; one more accusation made little
