Infiltrating Konoha

The message had come from Yamato, the spy Long Ye had planted in Konoha.

Yamato belonged to both the Anbu and Danzo's Root. His information would be reliable.

"What else did he say? Did he say why the Uchiha rebelled?"

"Apparently, it had something to do with our last attack on Konoha."

"What do you mean?"

Long Ye couldn't see the connection. How could his attack on Konoha have anything to do with the Uchiha rebellion?

"You used the Sharingan that time, so they decided you might have ties to the Uchiha. Some even believe the Uchiha secretly ordered the attack."

Long Ye gave a silent laugh.

"It seems the Konoha High Command really has lost faith in the Uchiha. They're treating a baseless suspicion as evidence."

The Uchiha knew they were innocent. They would never accept being falsely accused, but with no way to clear their names and one crackdown after another bearing down on them, rebellion must have begun to seem like the only way out.

Besides, a rebellion wasn't decided overnight. The Konoha High Command had suspected the Uchiha for a long time. This was, at most, the spark that set it off.

"At least they weren't wiped out!"

Long Ye breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

He cared about the Uchiha because he had promised Shisui, before Shisui died, that he would look after them. If the clan was wiped out, he would have broken his word.

"Danzo..."

A vicious glint flashed in Long Ye's eyes at the thought of him.

"It's time I avenged Shisui."

He pushed open the door.

"You're going to Konoha?" Pakura asked from the doorway.

"I'm going to kill one man, not start a war. You don't need to come."

Pakura nodded without a word.
