Gales howled beside their ears, raising waves that blotted out the sky. The enormous pirate ships swayed upon the sea, seeming liable to capsize at any moment.
The weather over the sea changed constantly as well. Torrential rain, hail, and snow came without end, while flames and lightning occasionally fell from the sky.
The seabed was no quieter. Towering currents frequently erupted, along with all kinds of bubbles floating on the ocean, filled with seawater.
In such a brutal environment, several pirate ships vanished into the sea every day. Even so, no one was willing to stop. Instead, crazed smiles filled their faces, because the more people died, the fewer there would be to share Laugh Tale's treasure with them.
Within the Pirate Alliance centered around the Spade Pirates and Whitebeard Pirates, aside from the Spade Pirates and Straw Hat Pirates, who followed an elite approach, the Whitebeard Pirates, Buggy Pirates, Cross Guild, Kid Pirates, and Bonney Pirates had all recruited huge numbers of pirate crews from across the sea to expand their forces. Calling them a mixed bag would not have been an exaggeration.
