Background and History

Ding Qingyan finds Ding Songyan after he awakens in a ruined temple with no memory of his life as “Second Brother Ding.” Though initially hurt by his failure to recognize her, she offers to verify their relationship through their parents, neighbors, or the yamen, then identifies herself as his younger sister and explains that the family has been living in Dingjiang Prefecture with their maternal cousin Qin Nuansheng 1.

She guides Songyan through Dingjiang Prefecture, introducing him to its sect-backed law enforcement, martial culture, and storytelling traditions. She knows enough to steer him away from Xiaoming Sect patrols and to warn him that advanced martial artists may develop nonhuman physical traits through cultivation 3. She also refuses Qu Zhongheng’s Wooden Kite Flyer because of its dangerous reputation, prioritizing Songyan’s safety over a quicker journey home 2.

After Songyan’s apparent death and return, Qingyan remains a steady source of domestic support.
