The crew patrolling the ships cheered when they spotted Ninja on the shore.
"Captain Darui, did you take Konoha?" one sailor shouted.
A Cloud shinobi glanced at the ships, confusion on his face. "I remember eight ships. There are only seven now. Where did the other one go?
"I don't remember Lord Darui ordering any of them to leave."
The Cloud shinobi squad fell silent. Its leaders grew uneasy.
Their operation had been carried out in secret, and all eight ships had sailed here covertly. No one would have ordered one away and increased their chances of being discovered.
One Ninja stepped forward and called toward the ships, "Why is one ship missing?"
A sailor leaned over a ship's railing. "We're short on supplies, so it went out to catch fish. That should give us a little more to eat.
"It'll be back this afternoon. Did Captain Darui take Konoha?"
As he spoke, longing spread across his face.
The Cloud shinobi remained wary. Konoha was hunting them down.
"You few, get aboard and check for anything unusual," a Cloud Jonin told the others.
They nodded and dashed toward the ship. A few leaps brought them aboard.
Only a handful of sailors were cleaning the deck. Nothing looked amiss.
"Check the cabin."
They headed for the cabin, but just as they reached the entrance, someone kicked its door open from the inside.
Shuriken and Kunai flew through the doorway. Figures leaped out behind them and charged the Cloud shinobi.
In the forest, more than a hundred Konoha shinobi closed in from every direction, surrounding the Cloud shinobi in moments.
Another two hundred Ninja joined the fight from the seven ships. Within minutes, every member of the newly arrived Cloud shinobi squad was dead.
