"I was greedy. I was a hypocrite. I betrayed you."
Shao Ang felt awful too.
"Oh." Xie Tingsi felt worse. He had thought he would feel nothing.
But he was wrong.
His heart was not made of iron. Xie Tingsi had treated everyone around him with sincerity, and Cheng Hui and Shao Ang had plunged knives into it without hesitation.
Xie Tingsi made his decision. "We're done."
"I don't want to be your friend anymore."
Shao Ang jerked his head up. His eyes suddenly reddened.
"I'll find someone else to play your role."
"Shao Ang, I hold grudges. I won't promote someone who betrayed me."
Xie Tingsi's handsome face was tense, his resolve unwavering.
Shao Ang's lips trembled. He turned his head, and a tear slipped down his cheek. He did not ask Xie Tingsi to reconsider. "I understand. I'll leave on my own."
"I betrayed your trust. I'm sorry."
Shao Ang's apology was far more sincere than Cheng Hui's. "I'll calculate the value of everything I got from Lu Bai over the past year and pay you back."
"I know you don't want it, but it's what you deserve."
"I won't ask for a termination fee, either."
Xie Tingsi said, "You're right. I don't want it."
"That's the price you got for selling out a friend. It disgusts me."
He refused to let Shao Ang set the terms. Xie Tingsi could not tolerate betrayal, and he would stand by that.
"As for the termination fee, follow the standard procedure. I'm the one breaking the contract."
Xie Tingsi would never take Shao Ang's money. The thought made him sick.
"Shao Ang, take care of yourself."
He looked Shao Ang straight in the eye. "I won't have you blacklisted. That's all."
Seeing Shao Ang visibly relax, Xie Tingsi felt only exhausted.
