The video call finally ended after nearly three hours. Huangfu Miaomiao was still reluctant to let it end, cradling her phone and unwilling to put it down.
Having narrowly escaped death, she had been bursting with things to say. But Pei Xianjue went out to work during the day, leaving Huangfu Miaomiao with no one to talk to. She was bored and lonely.
She set down her phone, picked up the cheese bread on the table, and took a savage bite. Chewing hard, she thought that she had to eat more and put on weight, so she could build herself up before Feng Ling came to pick her up.
Sigh... she wondered when Feng Ling would come for her.
Huangfu Miaomiao ate as she brooded.
The room was quiet. Other than her own chewing, the only sound was the soft rustling of Pei Xianjue turning through documents.
Holding her bread, Huangfu Miaomiao wandered over to Pei Xianjue.
Pei Xianjue was studying a design blueprint. On it was something shaped like the Chinese character "ji," drawn in painstaking detail and covered in annotations.
"What is this?" Huangfu Miaomiao asked.
Pei Xianjue smiled and held up the blueprint. "Take a guess. What do you think it is?"
"How could anyone possibly guess that?" Huangfu Miaomiao frowned and looked it over carefully. "It looks like a building block to me."
"Haha, you actually got it right." Pei Xianjue curled her lips with a hint of pride. "This huge chunk of iron is an important foundation component of the Iron Curtain Plan. Its greatest feature is that it can be assembled into a whole like Building Blocks. I plan to manufacture them across the country, then transport them to the Quarantine Zones for assembly. That way, we can avoid the difficulties of local construction."
