Ch. 41Looting the body
Key plot points and events
- After Xiang Jun and Tang Wutong defeat the would-be assassin, Huo Yuxi rushes over, relieved but guilty that she couldn’t help. Xiang Jun reassures her that they are all right.
- Tang Wutong suspects Dai Huabin arranged the attack, but Xiang Jun argues that he likely lacks the money and would not expose his involvement. They realize Zhou Yi may be behind it.
- Han Ruoruo and several Inner Court students arrive. Wu Ming identifies the unconscious attacker as Lei Su, a level 72 Soul Sage wanted by Shrek’s Inspection Corps for his crimes. Han Ruoruo takes him away and promises the academy will investigate.
- Back at the dormitory, Xiang Jun searches Lei Su’s Storage Soul Tool. It holds modest cash, ordinary materials, strange objects, whale rubber, and—most importantly—a Purple-Patterned Electric Eel Torso Bone bought at auction.
- Tang Wutong declines the Soul Bone and tells Xiang Jun to keep it, adding that he needn’t repay the two million Gold Soul Coins she lent him. Huo Yuxi also refuses a share, saying she did not earn one. Xiang Jun ultimately accepts the Soul Bone and turns his attention to the whale rubber.
Character developments and interactions
- Xiang Jun shows clearheaded judgment about the likely culprit and continues to tease those close to him. He is delighted by the Soul Bone but jokes that Tang Wutong may be trying to “buy” him.
- Tang Wutong is proud of helping defeat Lei Su and openly generous toward Xiang Jun, though she becomes flustered when he jokes about her motives. She claims she shares his bed only to avoid rooming with Gu Yuena.
- Huo Yuxi’s guilt over being unable to contribute contrasts with her friends’ reassurance; she refuses a reward she feels she did not earn.
- Han Ruoruo reacts protectively and angrily to the attack on her students. Wu Ming’s recognition of Lei Su underscores the significance of their victory.

- Suspicion and accountability: The characters consider who ordered the assassination, while the academy takes responsibility for investigating.
- Affection expressed through banter: Tang Wutong’s generosity and Xiang Jun’s teasing hint at closeness beneath their comic exchanges.
