Ch. 81My grandfather, Yu Yuanzhen
Plot points and events
- Yu Xiaogang reveals his radiant sacred dragon martial soul and a black spirit ring, proving that he can advance beyond level thirty. His father, Yu Yuanzhen, welcomes him back into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect, overruling the objections of his brother, Yu Luomian.
- Yu Luomian then challenges Ye Lin’s right to join, dismissing him as an outsider. Yu Xiaogang defends his disciple and reveals that Ye Lin is thirteen, has a Dark Gold Dreadclaw martial soul and level-thirty-two soul power, and recently defeated Yu Tianheng.
- Ye Lin displays his two yellow and one purple spirit rings. Yu Tianheng confirms that Ye Lin defeated him in three moves and says he still doubts he could win against him. Impressed, Yu Yuanzhen admits Ye Lin as a second-generation disciple with the same standing as Tianheng.
- In a private side hall, Yu Yuanzhen records both Yu Xiaogang and Ye Lin in the sect genealogy as direct-line disciples and gives Ye Lin a sect token. He thanks Ye Lin for helping Yu Xiaogang change and recover his confidence.
- When Ye Lin calls him “Sect Master,” Yu Yuanzhen prompts him to call him “Grandfather.” Ye Lin accepts, privately realizing he now has a powerful Titled Douluo as family.
Character developments and interactions
- Yu Xiaogang stands firmly by Ye Lin, presenting his disciple’s achievements and refusing to let him be excluded. His return to the family marks a major shift from his formerly dispirited state.
- Ye Lin remains composed under scrutiny and credits his progress to Yu Xiaogang’s guidance, even as he becomes part of the sect and Yu Yuanzhen’s family. He also privately wonders why his teacher seems so changed.
- Yu Yuanzhen acts decisively in both men’s favor. His pride in Xiaogang and gratitude toward Ye Lin reveal deep affection beneath his authority.
- Yu Luomian tries to block both admissions, but Ye Lin’s accomplishments and Yu Yuanzhen’s decisions leave him unable to continue.
- Yu Tianheng supports Ye Lin by giving an honest account of their defeat, strengthening Ye Lin’s case before the elders.
