Background / History
Sasuke is the younger son of Uchiha clan head Fugaku and Mikoto. As a child, he wanted his stern father’s attention and recognition, while Itachi’s affection gave him a strong sense of safety. Before the massacre, he noticed the adults’ grim behavior, his father’s exhaustion, and Itachi’s increasingly frequent discussions with Shisui 37 159 228.
The massacre left Sasuke with recurring nightmares of his parents’ deaths and Itachi urging him to live through hatred. He initially blamed Itachi, but the Canopy Screen exposed Danzō’s betrayal of Shisui and the leadership’s involvement in the clan’s destruction. Sasuke consequently sought enough power to take revenge on Konoha rather than solely on his brother 22 35 49 58 65.
Appearance
- Face and eyes: Handsome, finely sculpted features and normally dark eyes; his Sharingan turns them crimson 22 49 401.
- Young ninja attire: Dark training clothes suited to unrestricted movement 419.
- Future appearance: Tall, with a sturdy build, a dark outfit or black robe, and three swords secured at his waist 134 135 157.
- Travel attire: Appears in black clothing with a conical hat 344.
- Undercover disguise: Uses subtle cosmetics, loose ronin clothing, and a weathered katana to conceal his usual appearance 424.
Personality
Sasuke is aloof, proud, and reluctant to expose vulnerability. He regularly calls Naruto “Dead Last,” resents unexpected physical contact, and answers concern with irritation even when it comforts him. His pursuit of revenge is nevertheless calculated: he restrains himself when attacking Danzō would be futile or immediately make him a rogue ninja 49 63 113 197.
His attachment to Naruto repeatedly overrides his stated priorities. He chooses to help Naruto rather than escape a dangerous battle, later imagines death at his acknowledged best friend’s hands as an acceptable ending, and ultimately cannot deliver a fatal strike during their post-defection confrontation 88 123 333.
Future Sasuke remains terse and emotionally awkward, especially with Sarada, but expresses affection through protection, training, and quiet attention. He also recognizes the danger of adopting Danzō’s reasoning: after ordering the execution of captive women and children, he retracts the order when his own words remind him of Danzō’s justifications 158 160 494 505.
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan and Advanced Dōjutsu
Sasuke’s Sharingan supports precise prediction, combat analysis, and rapid memorization 144 397 408.
- Tracks attacks and identifies openings in swordsmanship and taijutsu 144 179.
- Analyzes an opponent’s breathing, movement patterns, and chakra bursts during combat 397.
- Sees through basic clones and dismantles Sakura’s fledgling genjutsu 329 419.
- Memorizes technique diagrams and chakra pathways, although prolonged intensive use causes pain, blurred vision, and chakra drain 408.
- Does not eliminate physical limitations: in the Naruko world, his undertrained body initially cannot follow his experienced mind’s commands 393 395.
His future self possesses the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and Rinnegan 146 147.
- Amaterasu: Applies black flames to enemies and Senbonzakura’s petals 145 212.
- Amenotejikara: Pulls the fleeing Land of Earth Person back into the flames 145.
- Planetary Devastation: Seals an opponent and binds Boros’s unstable energy 145 213.
- Rinnegan-assisted observation: Identifies a fleeting weakness in Boros’s energy network 213.
Susanoo
Future Sasuke manifests a towering purple Susanoo and later uses Perfect Susanoo against Boros 144 210.
- Its massive chakra sword is described as capable of cleaving a mountain 210.
- Boros evades the strike, cracks the sword, and reaches the forehead crystal, demonstrating that the construct does not guarantee protection 210.
Senbonzakura
Sasuke’s Zanpakuto releases countless sharp, cherry-blossom-like blades. Its command is “Scatter, Senbonzakura” 144.
- Shikai: Creates a controlled storm of cutting petals; young Sasuke uses it to interrupt Obito’s attack and later cut Naruto’s tailed-beast cloak 191 332.
- Bankai: Thousand Cherry Blossoms: Stern Scene: Expands the blades into an enormous sea capable of engulfing the Land of Earth Person’s Pseudo Nine-Tails 144.
- Black Cherry Blossom Funeral: Imbues the petals with Amaterasu and Nature Energy 212.
- Kōkei: Senbonzakura Final Scene: Condenses the petals into thousands of giant swords aimed at an enemy’s escape routes 212.
- Planetary Devastation: Final Scene: Uses the petals as the technique’s core rather than relying on surrounding earth 212.
- Six Paths: Senbonzakura: God-Slaying Sword: Concentrates the remaining petals into a white rapier that interrupts an energy node in Boros’s arm 213.
- Tsukuyomi: Cherry Blossom Realm: Produces four clones in the mental realm whose petal swords damage Boros’s exposed energy core 213.
Seeing the release command on the screen does not immediately grant mastery: young Sasuke’s first attempt produces no change. Later, in spirit form, he discovers that the weapon is an extension of his soul and can still wield it physically 146 333.
Elemental Ninjutsu
- Chidori: A piercing Lightning Release technique developed by Kakashi and refined by Sasuke, combining chakra form and nature transformation 506.
- Combat use: Clashes with Gaara’s transformed Shukaku claw, though Gaara’s second arm knocks Sasuke away 186.
- Fireball Jutsu: In the Naruko world, produces a fireball over two meters across; Neji blocks it with Heavenly Spin 395.
- Advanced study: Memorizes A-rank and near-S-rank Fire and Lightning Release scrolls, without the passages establishing mastery of every recorded technique 408.
Taijutsu, Swordsmanship, and Sun Breathing
Sasuke’s fighting style emphasizes concise movements, precise counters, and attacks aimed at weaknesses 144 308.
- Fights all four members of the Sound Four simultaneously before their Curse Marks intensify the pressure 308.
- Uses the Sword of Kusanagi to parry and counter the Land of Earth Person 144.
- Learns Sun Breathing as a style that can develop alongside physical strength and chakra control 408.
- Initially practices with a wooden sword, then applies its footwork and force generation to unarmed sparring 412 419.
Teaching and Assessment
- Corrects Sarada’s wrist position and chakra distribution through brief instructions and demonstrations 160.
- Requires Boruto to learn the Rasengan before accepting his first test as complete 506 508.
- Gives Sarada a daily Chidori routine focused on stable shaping, fixed-target strikes, and coordinating her Sharingan with movement 508.
- Detects an unusual irregularity in Boruto’s Rasengan chakra flow 508.

- Shimura Danzō — Principal target of revenge after the screen reveals his role in the Uchiha tragedy and his view of Sasuke as a specimen, vessel, and weapon 49 58 197.
- Naraka — Enemy implicated in the plot against the Uchiha. Sasuke fears his overwhelming chakra and a warning glance that seems to expose his hidden secrets 22 296.
Story Role / Major Arcs
The Canopy Screen and the Uchiha Truth
The screen forces Sasuke to reconsider the massacre. Shisui’s death exposes Danzō’s treachery, while later revelations show Itachi’s manipulation and Danzō’s intentions for Sasuke. His Sharingan evolves as his revenge shifts from Itachi to Konoha’s leadership 22 49 58.
Naruto’s intervention in his nightmare creates a competing attachment. Sasuke continues to reject comfort outwardly, but Naruto’s concern makes the massacre’s memories briefly less unbearable 35 63.
Team 7’s Dangerous Mission
Before Team 7’s secret B-rank mission, Sasuke considers using the departure to escape Konoha but rejects the idea. When Naruto chooses to hold off the enemy, Sasuke abandons his revenge calculations and moves to help him, ordering Sakura to evacuate Kakashi and Tazuna 77 88.
After Naruto revives, Sasuke punches him for teasing him about his worry. Team 7 returns with Mahito defeated and is instructed to prepare for the Chunin Exams 92 96.
Rejecting the Peaceful Future
The screen shows an adult Sasuke who has returned to Konoha, married Sakura, and become a father. Young Sasuke reacts with anger, interpreting these bonds as a betrayal of his revenge. Yet Sarada’s disappointment also reminds him of his own childhood desire for a father’s focused attention 133 134 135 159.
Future Sasuke’s memories reveal a different outcome: after their final battle at the Valley of the End, Naruto offers his life to persuade him to return, and Sasuke accepts 145.
Konoha Crush and Boros
Sasuke penetrates Gaara’s sand defenses during their exam match and later fights alongside Naruto and Sakura against his partial Shukaku transformation. During the wider conflict, his petal release interrupts Obito’s potentially lethal attack on Naruto 179 186 191.
The screen’s Boros battle showcases future Sasuke’s strongest combinations. He and Naruto exploit an energy-node weakness and a moment of shaken resolve to trap Boros in a black cube. Sasuke’s ocular power and chakra are so depleted afterward that he cannot immediately stand 210 212 213 214.
Attempting to Reverse the Massacre
The Rabbit Talisman sends Sasuke into his four- or five-year-old body in Konoha Year 56, little more than a year before the massacre. He tries to influence Hiruzen, Itachi, Mikoto, and Fugaku through warnings about the clan and the plot against Shisui 228 229 234 235.
The intervention fails. Itachi dies, ANBU attack the compound, and Danzō kills Mikoto before presenting Fugaku’s severed head to Sasuke. The shock awakens his Sharingan again. Sasuke later acknowledges that his schemes indirectly contributed to this version of the clan’s destruction 240 241 387.
Defection and the Valley of the End
Before leaving, Sasuke touches the Team 7 photograph and then turns it facedown. Sakura confronts him, but he defeats her, knocks her unconscious, and leaves with the Sound Four 329 330.
Naruto catches him at the Valley of the End. Sasuke combines the Rabbit Talisman’s speed with Senbonzakura, then attacks from spirit form. Despite his determination to sever their bond, he shifts the final thrust away from Naruto’s heart and vital organs 331 332 333.
Sasuke and Naruko
In another world, Sasuke finds his family alive and the Uchiha supported by the Fourth Hokage. His accumulated experience remains, but his younger body lacks training and initially has no awakened Sharingan 385 393 395.
After recalling the massacre to awaken his eyes against Neji, Sasuke allows others to believe that love for Naruko caused the awakening rather than reveal his other timeline. Their subsequent attempt to obtain clan techniques yields Sun Breathing knowledge but brings reprimands and conflict. They eventually reconcile, and Naruko gives him an ancient Uzumaki sword 396 397 399 408 411 416.
Future Investigations and Mentorship
Future Sasuke investigates the Jashinist Cult and Otsutsuki ruins for Naruto. During a raid, he retracts an execution order after recognizing its resemblance to Danzō’s reasoning and leaves the captives’ treatment to standard procedures 380 494.
He later returns home, accepts Boruto’s request for training, and begins teaching Sarada Chidori. When Naruto warns of a possible attack by Urashiki, Sasuke is asked to remain in Konoha; he also decides that Sarada should inherit the Millennium Key at graduation 505 506 508 605.
