Background and History

Zhu Xin once dealt in antiques and curios under the name Iron-Eyed Zhu. He says he reached a level of mastery in that trade, becoming known for judging an object’s age, history, and authenticity at a glance. In later life, he is a familiar presence at a South City food stall, where Qin Geng first seeks his advice about finding a martial-arts teacher 4 42.

After Qin begins training, Zhu Xin directs him to Zheng Tonghe of Hundred Herb Hall for genuine medicine. He also races to warn Qin when fighters attack Xun River Wharf. Following Qin’s victory there, Zhu Xin cautions him about retaliation and advises him to bring the cart pullers together over a meal 14 15 17.

Seeing that Qin cannot afford the medicine his training requires, Zhu Xin offers him ten silver dollars from the money set aside for his funeral. He asks Qin to arrange that funeral when the time comes, and urges him to build a cart company rather than rely on his fists alone 25 26.

As his health declines, Zhu Xin entrusts Qin with his property papers and a collection of antiques hidden beneath his courtyard. His niece Zhu Cui later arrives with Dragon King Society men and attempts to force him out, claiming an officially stamped deed transfers the property to her. Qin intervenes and protects him 42 45 47.

Appearance

Zhu Xin is an elderly, gaunt man whose once-sharp eyes have grown cloudy. His health deteriorates visibly as his coughing grows severe 14 26 42 44.
