But that was true only for ordinary people.
After all, the girl standing before him was far more than she appeared.
She—Qian Lingmeng—was a terrifying existence, exceptional even among the spirits humans called "natural disasters."
Known as "the Strongest Spirit," she possessed twelve different abilities. She was absurdly overpowered, even by spirit standards.
And one of her Twelve Abilities happened to let her peer into other people's memories: Mental Power.
That was why Lingmeng could say it with such confidence.
Lingmeng herself merely shrugged, unfazed.
"Anyway, bring your head over here. Let me take a look at those memories buried in your brain."
"Ah... oh, right... I'm counting on you..."
Prompted by her, Shido snapped out of his daze and nodded blankly.
Then he hurriedly leaned his head toward Lingmeng.
Most of her Spirit Power had been sealed, but peering into Shido's simple head would still be easy.
"Phew. Here goes..."
Lingmeng let out a soft sigh. Once she was ready, she placed her right hand on Shido's head and kept it there, as though giving him a head pat.
She gathered Spirit Power within her body and sent it down her right arm into Shido's head.
"Ha!"
Lingmeng squeezed her eyes shut and shouted. Her consciousness surged into Shido's mind along with her Spirit Power.
"Mm..."
It would not hurt him, but perhaps because it was his first time, Shido could not help letting out a soft groan.
The two remained in that position for some time.
"So this is what's inside Shido's head? Just as I thought—empty. There's nothing here."
Lingmeng gazed at the endless white expanse around her and muttered to herself.
She was only joking, of course.
She had not chosen a memory to examine yet, so it was perfectly normal for nothing to appear
