As Lady Lavilette fled screaming through the manor, she still had no idea what had happened.
This was supposed to be a banquet, a victory celebration, wasn't it?
Why had it turned into this?
What had happened? Had Duke Caspar plotted to assassinate the Princess? Or had the Princess's true identity as an evil dragon accidentally been exposed?
Lady Lavilette did not understand. She could not make sense of it. The noblewoman, who had spent half her life in pampered luxury, screamed like a madwoman as she scrambled to escape, the stockings beneath her skirt splitting at the seams.
Behind her, crystal chandeliers crashed from the ceiling. Flames and explosions filled her vision. She saw hundreds upon thousands of devils appear in her manor. The estate, with its centuries of history, had become a feast of blood, as hordes of fiendish creatures manifested one after another without restraint.
Not far away, the guests were making their final stand. Brave clerics and nobles with warrior backgrounds valiantly held back the fiendish horde. She saw horned fiends, fiends bearing spears, fiends covered in spines, and fiends made entirely of bone with skeletal wings sprouting from their backs, all pouring forth.
Human battle cries rang out incessantly. At the front line, the people of Cormyr and the clerics formed a solid shield wall. As the two sides closed in, contemptuous taunts in Common and Infernal echoed throughout the banquet hall. Then spells, divine magic, arrows, and projectiles whistled out to punish the charging fiends. Dozens of meters away, the nearest group was blasted into smoking chunks of flesh, blood spraying everywhere.
Lady Lavilette saw a massive fiendish leader take a divine spell to the face. As the monster vanished into a twisting cloud of bloody mist, she briefly glimpsed a chance of victory.
