"No need to check." Garp waved a hand. "I see this kid aboard the ship all the time. He's fine."

"Huh? But..." The rear admiral scratched his head. "I don't really remember him..."

"What? You think my eyes have gone bad with age and I can't recognize someone?"

"Ah! No, no, Vice Admiral Garp, that's not what I meant..."

The chief jailer of Level One stepped in to smooth things over. "If Vice Admiral Garp vouches for him, there can't be a problem. Do as Vice Admiral Garp says. I'll have someone bring a cart over right away."

After that, the Marine rear admiral took the Marines back to the Marine battleship outside Impel Down.

With Garp's help, Sabo stayed behind as a low-ranking soldier doing the heavy lifting. Pulling a cart loaded with supplies, he followed Garp into the elevator and reached the floor housing the medical room without a hitch.

Once they stepped out of the elevator, Garp dismissed the nearby jailers and led Sabo toward the medical room himself.

After they had walked a while and no one else was around, Sabo finally asked, "Vice Admiral Garp, you recognized me ages ago, didn't you? Why help me?"

Garp glanced back at him, then suddenly broke into a toothy grin. "Hahaha! Kid, that Marine uniform suits you pretty well. Why not go along with the mistake and become a real Marine?"

"No, thank you," Sabo declined. "Being a Marine isn't my calling. I appreciate the offer, though."

"Ah, what a shame." Garp looked regretful. "Why do all the promising youngsters I take a liking to refuse to become Marines?"

After a brief silence, Sabo continued, "You already know why I'm here, don't you? You brought me in just like that. Aren't you worried I'll take Lin Mo away?"
