Chapter 789: Jalle Island: Landing

Jalle Island was also shrouded in clouds and mist.

But its own coloring stood in stark contrast to the pure white Cloud Sea surrounding it.

Even the mist coiling around the island had been stained a red so dark it was almost black.

Like Angel Island, the ground and buildings on Jalle Island were made from special cloud bricks, but those bricks were also as blackish red as the surrounding mist.

On closer inspection, however, the cloud bricks actually gave off a faint scorched smell, as though they had all been burned by excessive heat.

There were plants on the island, of course, but strangely, none of them had leaves, whether trees, flowers, or grass.

Jalle Island was roughly five or six times the size of Angel Island. Five Cloud Ladders rose at forty-five-degree angles from the Cloud Docks around its edges, all leading toward the island's only residential town.

Compared with Angel Island, the buildings here were much more rudimentary. Most were plain, boxy structures with little decoration. Despite the fairly moist air and the Cloud Sea surrounding the island, the streets in the residential area were covered in fine cracks that looked as though they had formed from extreme dryness.

Most importantly, almost none of the people living here wore smiles, as though living on this island was a painful experience.

Watching the strange, dangerous-looking island draw closer, Kuina asked skeptically, "This is the beautiful place you were talking about? Have I misunderstood what beautiful means?"

Kaku gave an awkward chuckle. "This was unexpected. Angel Island, where we went before, really was beautiful. The sky is enormous, after all, right? It's only natural for there to be a few strange Sky Islands."
