Ch. 201The Three Divine Maidens of Ryūchi Cave
Plot points and events
- Tagorihime tries to lure Obito with an illusory palace, lavish food, and personal attention so she can consume his chakra. Obito refuses to eat, exposing the illusion: the palace becomes a snake pit and the food rotten meat.
- A voice in the mist confirms that Tagorihime’s test has failed. Ryūchi Cave’s rules forbid its guardians from eating challengers who resist their temptations, so Tagorihime withdraws angrily.
- Obito follows the next guide, Ichikishimahime, who challenges him to fit pieces into a stone door. He solves the puzzle quickly, and she disappears, disappointed that he remains difficult to eat.
- Tagitsuhime then attacks, attempting to bite Obito and poison him into hallucinations. Her bite fails, and the White Snake Sage orders her to stop and let Obito proceed.
- Obito enters a real temple and climbs to its highest chamber, where he meets the White Snake Sage.
Character developments and interactions
- Obito remains irreverent, confident, and unmoved by the tests. He resists Tagorihime’s deception, solves Ichikishimahime’s puzzle with ease, and laughs off Tagitsuhime’s attack.
- Tagorihime shifts from sugary hospitality to open fury when her trick fails, but she must obey the cave’s rules.
- Ichikishimahime’s playful test proves no obstacle; she leaves after Obito solves it.
- Tagitsuhime is openly hostile, but the White Snake Sage’s authority stops her. The Sage remains unseen until Obito reaches the temple, where she studies him with interest.
- The chapter’s encounters pit Obito’s mockery and composure against the three maidens’ attempts to tempt, test, or attack him.
Significant themes
- Temptation and self-control: Obito passes the first trial by refusing the food meant to ensnare him.
- Rules and authority: The maidens’ power is limited by the White Snake Sage’s conditions, and even their anger cannot override her command.
- Arrogance and comedy: Obito treats the trials as trivial and ridicules the guardians, giving the chapter a deliberately irreverent tone.
