A general finding a worthy talent, or a gifted scholar finding his beloved, made for a beautiful tale. So did the meeting of a well-matched Pokémon and Trainer.
And in the Pokémon World, such tales were often called "bonds."
So bonds were not something invisible and intangible, nor something you had to pray for the heavens to bestow.
Compatibility—or rather, a bond—was something you had to create yourself!
After all, a Trainer would have many different kinds of Pokémon, and those Pokémon could undergo enormous changes in their strengths and personalities before and after Evolution.
A Trainer needed to take all those possibilities into account.
Dian had made that mistake once. Although he had originally caught Zubat only for the sake of the Probopass in the cave, he had still caught Zubat. So, committed to taking responsibility to the end, he had applied what he believed was the most sensible training method, one that would maximize Zubat's potential and strength.
In the end, Zubat had abandoned his path and chosen instead to use Supersonic to diagnose illnesses.
Although Chinami had offered a different explanation, this Officer Jenny was not very good at lying.
So Dian had understood the truth from the beginning, and for a while, he had felt lost.
But when he thought it through, it was perfectly normal.
You might be willing to sleep less than four hours a day and spend your whole life striving for the pinnacle as a Trainer, but that did not mean your partners, your Pokémon, were willing to follow you day after day, year after year, with hardly a chance to rest.
Dian and his Pokémon had taken a little over two years to catch up with what others achieved in six or seven.
