Verdant peaks rose like azure spears thrust from the earth into the clouds.
Amid the circling white clouds, melodious yet majestic cries rang out from time to time.
Dian stood atop a Vibrava nearly two meters long, wearing the red-and-white uniform developed by the Pokémon Ranger Union.
Vibrava of all sizes surrounded him.
Some nuzzled each other, while others touched antennae. Pure, carefree innocence shone in their deep-green eyes.
But most of the Vibrava gazed at Mt. Coronet Summit beyond the clouds, their eyes deep as they instinctively released fearsome ultrasonic vibrations.
The vibrations produced by countless Vibrava overlapped, seeming to cross some threshold and create a windless zone at the summit.
Every Vibrava nearing two meters in length circled the outside of the swarm. Their deep-green eyes blazed, and their huge diamond-shaped wings glowed emerald.
Wave after almost tangible wave of sound surged against the fierce winds ravaging the summit.
Dian stood on the Vibrava's back with his arms folded, gazing into the distance.
Now and then, Altaria that looked as though they wore cotton candy emerged from the clouds around the summit.
One or two tiny, bewildered Swablu hid within each Altaria's fluffy plumage.
Earlier, Dian had fed a mischievous Swablu a few Pokéblocks. A whole crowd of Swablu had promptly begun calling out, one after another, like children begging for candy.
Then an Altaria had rolled its dark eyes at him, as if telling him not to interfere.
Dian raised his Capture Styler, took a photo, and sent it off. Then he sighed for no particular reason. "It's been a whole year."
He had followed the Vibrava through countless regions, from the uninhabited Frozen Sea Storm Zone to the distant Alola Region.
He had even seen the Great Chasm above Alola's clouds.
