"Did you hear something?" Roland suddenly interrupted Owlman.
"Rats," Batman said. "That's a lot of them."
"This is bad! Cover your ears, now! Don't listen!" Alarmed, Owlman extended sharp blades from his hands and plunged them into his ears, shredding his eardrums.
"Was that really necessary?" Roland stared at him, dumbfounded. Suddenly, grotesquely distorted visions seemed to appear before his eyes, and he threw up his breakfast. "Fuck, my clay pot rice."
"You saw it too?" Batman looked just as sick.
"If you hear that sound, and your ancestors practiced cannibalism, you'll see those scenes," Owlman said, unable to hear them. "Cannibalism doesn't mean eating every part. Scraps of flesh, bones, skin, hair, and other kitchen waste were generally eaten by rats. Those rats in the walls witnessed our ancestors eating people. They make that sound to urge us down the same path, so they can feast on our leftovers."
