Striaton Gym was housed in a luxurious restaurant in Striaton City.

Unlike other Gyms, it had three Gym Leaders: Cilan, Burgundy, and Cress.

Challengers only had to defeat one of them to earn the Trio Badge.

But Cilan had already been "spirited away" by Ash, leaving Bai Shi to choose between the other two.

"Burgundy uses a Fire-type Simisear, while Cress has a Water-type Panpour."

"Sealeo hasn't evolved yet, so I'll use Manectric against Cress's Panpour!"

After some thought, Bai Shi chose Cress as his opponent.

As Bai Shi recalled, Cress was not especially strong.

He planned to hold back Electric Domain during their battle.

That way, he could gauge Manectric's strength without it.

"You have a good eye! I'll make sure you enjoy our battle!"

Cress praised Bai Shi's choice.

"Tch. How boring!"

Burgundy, who had not been chosen, sounded disappointed.

Bai Shi then followed Cress to the battlefield.

Striaton Gym's battlefield was a standard rocky field.

Dirt and rocks of every size covered the ground.

"Manectric, you're up!"

Bai Shi took out a Poké Ball and tossed it into the air, sending Manectric onto the field.

"An Electric-type Pokémon, just as I thought... Come out, Panpour!"

Cress sent out Panpour as usual.

Once both Pokémon were in position, the battle began.

"Manectric, use Thunder Wave!"

Bai Shi seized the initiative.

A faint blue current shot toward Panpour.

"Panpour, get behind a rock!"

Cress snapped his fingers and gave the order.

Panpour leaped behind a boulder, using it as a shield against Manectric's Thunder Wave.

"Panpour, use Water Gun!"

Having blocked the attack, Cress immediately struck back.

Panpour opened its mouth and fired a stream of water as thick as a grown person's arm at Manectric.

"Manectric, use Agility!"

Bai Shi's expression remained unchanged as he gave the order.
