He had already whittled Elekid down to its last sliver of health.

One more hit would have knocked it out.

Now, with evolution in the mix, the final outcome was anyone's guess.

Staravia's Fast Aerial Ace had already been revealed, too.

The battle had seemed clear-cut, but now the situation had changed again.

Even so, Bai Shi hadn't forgotten the basic code of a Pokémon Trainer.

He calmed Staravia down and kept it from interrupting Elekid's evolution.

This evolution came just in time!

Unlike the frustrated Bai Shi, Paul secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Staravia's Fast Aerial Ace wasn't as powerful as Zangoose's High-Speed Crush Claw, but it was still stronger than an ordinary Aerial Ace.

Bai Shi had been downright sneaky, keeping it hidden until now.

Without this evolution, his surprise attack might really have worked.

Then Paul wouldn't have known how he could still have the nerve to call Chimchar and Staravia useless.

The white light faded, revealing the newly evolved Electabuzz.

Its height shot up from just over half a meter to 1.2 meters.

Its body was yellow with black lightning markings, and its fierce expression made it look like something nobody should mess with.

I've played every trump card. All I can do now is push on.

"Staravia, use Air Slash!"

Bai Shi's gaze sharpened as he ordered Staravia to attack.

It unleashed several translucent blades that shot toward Elekid.

"Electabuzz, use Thunderbolt!"

Facing Staravia's Air Slash, Paul gave Elekid his command.

Buoyed by its evolution, Electabuzz rapidly swung its arms and unleashed a powerful electric current.

Even stronger than before, it easily pierced the incoming blades.

Without losing any momentum, it lashed toward Staravia.
