As compensation, Mingyou agreed to Synchrony's experiment. He took the Synchronizer from her and turned it over curiously, studying it from every angle.
Rather than a keyboard device, the Synchronizer looked more like a Game Boy: a simple screen with a few buttons. It reminded him of playing Pokémon Red and Green.
He pressed the red button at the bottom. The color screen lit up at once, displaying a spinning Poké Ball icon and nothing else.
He was about to try another button when Synchrony stopped him. "Wait! You can play with the Synchronizer later. Listen to my explanation first!"
"Oh. Go ahead."
"Ahem..."
Synchrony cleared her throat twice, then began solemnly. "Listen carefully. The Synchronizer is still in development and testing. If you use it improperly, it could be dangerous!"
"I know that, Professor. Please continue."
"Good! Pick up the Synchronizer. See the blue button?"
"This one?"
Mingyou lifted the Synchronizer. Synchrony nodded. "Don't press it yet. Keep listening... Once you press that button, point the Synchronizer's signal receiver at the Pokémon you want to synchronize with. When the screen says it's received the Pokémon's emotional information, you can begin synchronization."
"Sounds a little mysterious... Maybe I'm just a country boy who doesn't understand technology."
Mingyou grumbled to himself, then asked, "What's the next step?"
"Press the blue button again to synchronize. It takes about three to five minutes. The Synchronizer receives your emotions and transmits them to the Pokémon."
Her tone grew more emphatic. "And remember, you can't just grab any Pokémon and synchronize with it. For emotional synchronization, the Pokémon has to like you. The stronger your bond, the better it works. Otherwise, the Pokémon's body might reject you."
"Once you synchronize, your body falls asleep and your mind enters the Pokémon's body. You can guide it
