Background and History

Mingyou grew up in Levincia, Paldea. A childhood head injury left him without memories of his previous life until motion sickness on a bus to Kitakami brought them back. In that life, he had grown up in an orphanage and returned to work there after university. His parents in the Pokémon world died in an aviation accident two years before his arrival in Kitakami 1 223 397.

His grandfather left him a neglected manor and an overdue land-use debt. Mingyou refused to transfer the property to the local authorities, choosing instead to restore it and care for the Pokémon living there. He later repaid the debt and signed a contract to buy the plot outright 2 5 6 146.

The Manor grows into a shared home for Pokémon and the center of Mingyou’s crop business. He also plans an Ecological Park and supports Akari’s proposal for a school in Verdant Town 351. After winning the Junior Cup, he enters the Pokémon World Championships partly to carry on Akari’s former dream of reaching the pinnacle of battling 400 401.

Personality

Mingyou tends to offer Pokémon a place in his life rather than demand their obedience. He waits for a partner who accepts him wholeheartedly before asking Ogerpon to become his first Pokémon, and later lets Snivy decide whether she wants to train for a tournament 22 270. He will intervene when Pokémon are threatened, but tries to keep bystanders out of danger 28 403.

He is commercially inventive, using his unusual produce to build a business and treating battles and public appearances as chances to promote the Manor 40 270 311. His confidence is tempered by practical caution: he negotiates to keep his land, limits Calyrex’s use of the Meadow Plate, and avoids confronting Miraidon at the Manor while its motives are unclear 2 210 250.

Pokémon Cards and Crop Cultivation

Mingyou can perceive information about Pokémon, plants, and objects. Bonds with Pokémon produce cards that alter suitable seeds or trees, creating crops with effects such as move learning or temporary boosts 1 5 15.

• A card’s friendship level affects the strength of its added effects; cards are recovered after the crop is harvested or can no longer grow 1 5.
• His Ogerpon Citrus can help Pokémon master their powers and mature temporarily. Mingyou checks whether their rapid-growth effect is safe before sharing or selling the harvest 15.
• Crops tended by Pokémon can yield more fruit and have shorter growth cycles 39.
• He labels produce by its effects and considers who can safely eat it 39 46.

Battle Strategy and Synchronization

Mingyou describes himself as inexperienced and, even after becoming a successful competitor, says he adapts to each Pokémon’s fighting style rather than imposing one of his own 106 463.

• He uses terrain, timing, and unexpected moves: Gible’s Sand Tomb and Cross Poison decide his battle with Shali 106.
• He and Lucario trigger a Mega-like transformation through shared Aura and focus without the usual stones; synchronization lets them coordinate closely, but Lucario’s injuries can affect Mingyou too 416 469.
• Against Oleana, he combines a Z-Move, Garchomp’s Steel Terastallization, and Garchomp’s first Mega Evolution 420.

• Ash — a friendly rival whom Mingyou helps train and later faces in the Junior Cup semifinals 119 324.

• World Championships: His rise brings battles with opponents including Siebold, Marnie, and Raihan. He reaches rank eight, though the Masters Tournament subsequently bans Miraidon and Keldeo in Resolute Form 416 427 451 453.
• Verdant Town’s future: Alongside the Manor and Ecological Park, Mingyou backs a local school intended to give Kitakami’s children more opportunities 351 401.
