Ch. 441Everyday Life with Jirachi, and a Terrifying Alien
Key plot points and events
- The chapter flashes back to the previous night: Meloetta’s song causes a sacred rope to snap and a boulder at the Mossdeep Space Center to split open, revealing a glowing purple crystal—Jirachi, the Wishing Star.
- Jirachi shoots into the sky, and Akari, Ogerpon, and Meloetta spend the night chasing it around Mossdeep City. Near Shoal Cave at dawn, its light fades, and it awakens in Meloetta’s arms.
- Back in the present, Mingyou hears the story and regrets not being there for the chase. Jirachi drinks milk, bonds with the group, and wants to go play.
- Meloetta decides to act as Jirachi’s big sister, hoping to give it a few days of ordinary Pokémon life before the meteor shower ends and it falls asleep again.
- The group takes Jirachi out while shielding it from public attention. Jirachi uses its wish-granting powers to take food without paying, prompting Meloetta to teach it basic rules. It later teleports a durian onto Miraidon’s head.
- The outing takes an ominous turn when Mingyou notices an unusual number of Clefairy. Akari wonders if they came from space, and Mingyou recalls alien-made Iron Moth. After the group leaves, the Clefairy reveal a hostile, murderous attitude toward them.
Character developments
- Meloetta shows how far it has grown: once timid and dependent, it now confidently cares for Jirachi and takes on a protective older-sibling role. Its own history of being bound to a duty makes it especially sensitive to Jirachi’s fate.
- Jirachi is portrayed as innocent, affectionate, and childlike, quickly becoming attached to Meloetta and enjoying the attention of the whole group. Its naivety is also evident in its trouble understanding rules.
- Mingyou is delighted by Jirachi but becomes aware of the responsibility involved in caring for a child. He also recognizes that the group’s time with Jirachi is limited.
- Akari focuses on making Jirachi’s remaining time awake happy, accepting that their eventual parting will be painful.
- Diancie is eager for affection and recognition, quickly adoring Jirachi; Keldeo continues to tease her.
