Background / History

Earlier Encounter with the Sealed Abyss

Ghost Douluo encountered the forbidden site in Sunset Forest thirty years before Xiao Ran’s investigation. After seeing strange patterns on its rocks, he wrote a retreat warning on a parchment. Older Spirit Hall records identified the location as the Sealed Abyss and prohibited approaching, investigating, or breaching it; a censored line beneath those instructions retained only the words “Do not” 49.

Following Xiao Ran and Hu Liena’s expedition, he concluded that the Abyss was changing. The red mist and brands on the dead Soul Douluos had not appeared in earlier accounts. He also expressed the belief that the underground presence was not a soul beast 49.

Investigating and Escorting Xiao Ran

After Xiao Ran defeated Shen Yan in Spirit Hall Academy’s selection tournament, Bibi Dong ordered Ghost Douluo to investigate his background. He reported that Xiao Ran’s file identified him as an orphan from Holy Soul Village, while noting that verification would take time 22.

Ghost Douluo subsequently escorted Xiao Ran to Qian Daoliu, who had sensed extraordinary power during the tournament final. He delivered the young soul master, bowed to the Great Enshrined, and withdrew when dismissed. He also escorted Xiao Ran and Hu Liena to the Pope’s Palace for their appointments as Bibi Dong’s disciple and Spirit Hall’s Saintess 26 27.

Three months after Bibi Dong assigned Xiao Ran to enter the Noa Ruins, Ghost Douluo accompanied him to their entrance and explained the seven-day return deadline. He waited seven days without seeing Xiao Ran emerge, then returned to report his disappearance. Xiao Ran eventually reappeared after a year had passed outside 28 30.

Rescue from Dugu Bo and Gu Rong

During the confrontation with Dugu Bo and Bone Douluo Gu Rong, Ghost Douluo joined Chrysanthemum Douluo Yue Guan to immobilize Gu Rong with their Two Extremes Stillness Domain. He brought the injured Yan to the escape point and urgently instructed Xiao Ran to carry him back to Spirit Hall 34.

Once Xiao Ran was safely away, Ghost Douluo ordered Yue Guan to release the domain. They withdrew just before Gu Rong broke free. Back at the Pope’s Palace, Ghost Douluo stood ready to support the exhausted Yue Guan and helped him leave for treatment 33 34.

Fifth Soul Ring Expedition

Bibi Dong assigned Ghost Douluo to accompany Xiao Ran and Hu Liena into Sunset Forest. He established that he would intervene to prevent their deaths, not hunt Xiao Ran’s Soul Ring for him 41.

He recommended a roughly fifty-thousand-year-old Flash Shadow Light Beast, whose light attribute and mental interference suited Xiao Ran’s requested attributes. Because of its exceptional speed, he advised waiting for it rather than pursuing it. At their campsite, his aura drove away a sixty-thousand-year Shadow Python 42.

Ghost Douluo allowed Xiao Ran to fight the approaching Light Beast, offered a timely combat cue, and ordered him to absorb its ring immediately after victory. The resulting lightning skill surprised him: he proposed that Xiao Ran’s Martial Soul might possess a previously unawakened lightning attribute. He also detected that an unknown observer had left the area 43.

After returning the pair to Spirit Hall, he notified Xiao Ran of Bibi Dong’s summons and warned him to consider what he would say about his breakthrough 44.

Renewed Abyss Investigation

Ghost Douluo delivered Bibi Dong’s order for Xiao Ran and Hu Liena to investigate abnormal Soul Power fluctuations three hundred li into Sunset Forest within seven days. He suggested that the assignment also aimed to draw out the observer from the Soul Ring hunt 45.

Privately, he arranged for Hu Liena to remind Xiao Ran of the parchment’s warning against approaching the Sealed Land. Before departure, he provided a one-way Soul Tool Communicator and imposed a strict deadline, saying he would assume them dead if they returned late 46.

When they returned, Ghost Douluo questioned them in a secluded room about the corpses, rock patterns, and underground heartbeat. Xiao Ran eventually showed him the Ultraman Tiga Card. Ghost Douluo suspected a connection between the card and the Abyss, instructed him to protect it, and warned against showing it to others 48 49.

He also warned the pair that Sea God Island envoy Bai Lu had specifically asked whether they had returned from the western forest. He told them not to approach her and took responsibility for dealing with her. Later, he sent Xiao Ran a note requesting a private meeting at midnight 49 50.

His protection is practical rather than indulgent. He gives Xiao Ran opportunities to fight independently while remaining ready to intervene, and his concern for Yue Guan appears through quiet physical support rather than reassurance 33 41 43.

He reveals information selectively. Xiao Ran and Hu Liena remain unsure how much he knows about the Sealed Abyss and why he wants Xiao Ran alive. Hu Liena interprets his protection partly as a desire to understand Xiao Ran, while both youngsters suspect that he continues to withhold important details 46 49 50.
