The river bubbled and gurgled, sending up an endless stream of scalding steam. Cooked fish and shrimp floated on the surface, while the plants' flowers and leaves rapidly shriveled. Their branches grew so brittle that a gust of wind seemed enough to reduce them, leaves and all, to nothing.
The entire valley also shook violently, as though an earthquake had struck. Countless magic runes hovered above the hollow, gradually changing from transparent to silver-gray, then from silver-gray to red. Finally, they crumbled one by one, revealing an enormous structure that could just barely be recognized as hemispherical.
It could only "barely" be recognized because its edges had already been completely destroyed, while explosions continued to boom and crash at its center.
At this rate, it would not be long before the whole structure was blasted to smithereens!
