Background and History

Salasha was born into a half-Beastfolk tribe whose members can change between human and animal forms while young, but are destined to lose their human memories and remain animals upon reaching adulthood. As the chief’s daughter, she was raised to seek a way to break this blood curse. She trained relentlessly and eventually left the tribe to search for a remedy, accompanied by her twin sister, Salatea 286.

After obtaining information about the curse from Patrick’s ghost, the sisters arranged a transfer to Hogwarts. Salasha entered as a Durmstrang transfer student, refused to wear the Sorting Hat, and announced that she had already chosen Slytherin. She immediately singled out Robin Sear—also called Luo Bin—and warned the other students not to oppose her 104 286.

Salasha had agreed to hand Luo Bin over to others in exchange for help breaking the curse, dead or alive if necessary. Salatea later described herself as pursuing the same goal by a different means. The twins’ lives and spiritual senses are linked: Salatea says she can feel Salasha’s injuries and would die if Salasha died 137.

Appearance

Salasha first appears as a tall, slender girl in a black knitted dress rather than school robes 104.

• Jet-black hair parted into two braids, with wispy bangs 104.
• Large brown eyes and a small beauty mark below the outer corner of her right eye 104.
• A cold, unsettling gaze; her hand feels unusually cold and thin to Luo Bin 104 105.
• After emerging from the Black Pool, she is skeletal and decayed, with extremely long hair and a spider-like gait 285.

Salatea also appears publicly under Salasha’s name, but adopts flowing hair, makeup, and blue contact lenses. Their similar appearance initially obscures the fact that they are separate people 125 137.

Personality

Salasha is direct, domineering, and willing to turn a threat into an attack. She calls her attempt to shove Luo Bin from a tower a joke, then pushes Hermione into the Black Lake. When Luo Bin refuses to leave Hogwarts with her, she tries to take him by force 112 113 136.

Her pursuit of the curse’s cure drives much of her violence. She is also fiercely hostile toward Salatea: learning that her sister’s plan could leave her to die prompts her to attack and disrupt the ritual 137 288.

Beastfolk Transformation

• Can transform into a bat; she uses the form to escape her restraints and reach Salatea inside a magical barrier 288.
• Dobby reports seeing her drain more than a dozen hens while in bat form 296.
• Her tribe’s blood curse threatens to make the animal form permanent and seal away human memories in adulthood 286.

Combat

• Is trained in close combat. During a corridor ambush, she dodges Luo Bin’s fencing sword and wears him down; his Petrificus Totalus does not stop her 136.
• Can launch a poisonous dart from her throat. One grazes Harry Potter and leaves him weak and numb 285.
• Knows a rare secret art that manifests as black mist. She uses it to contest Salatea’s consciousness-transfer ritual, reducing the magic flowing toward Ginny 288.

• Black wand — carried when she introduces herself at Hogwarts 104.
• Bloodied mirror shard — used as a weapon in her attempt to capture or kill Luo Bin 136.

Relationships

• Salatea Fudgey — twin sister and companion in the search for a cure. Their lives are linked, but Salatea resents living under Salasha’s name; their conflict becomes a fight over Salatea’s ritual 137 286 288.
• Robin Sear / Luo Bin — her intended captive and recurring opponent. He resists her threats, survives her ambush, and later restrains her in the Chamber 106 136 137 285 286.
• Harry Potter — believes Salasha is his friend and tries to reach her in the Chamber, where she instead wounds him with a poisoned dart. Salatea later says that the sister Harry befriended was herself, not Salasha 285 286.
• Hermione Granger — intervenes when Salasha shoves Luo Bin toward a tower drop; Salasha later pushes Hermione into the Black Lake 112 113.

• Arrival at Hogwarts — Salasha claims a place in Slytherin and focuses on Luo Bin. Her threats escalate to attacks during a tour of the castle and grounds 104 112 113.
• Ambush and the twins’ reveal — she demands that Luo Bin leave Hogwarts with her, fights him, and is paralyzed by a neurotoxin-coated needle. Salatea arrives, identifies herself as Salasha’s twin, and takes her away 136 137.
• Chamber of Secrets — Salasha emerges from the Black Pool in a severely deteriorated form and attacks Harry and Luo Bin. After Luo Bin restrains her, she awakens during Salatea’s ritual and uses her bat form and secret art to oppose her sister. Salatea swallows her as their struggle weakens the ritual’s barrier 285 286 287 288.
